KS Bharat, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, has announced his retirement from international cricket after playing just seven Test matches.
The 32-year-old last appeared for India against England in Visakhapatnam in February 2024. He finishes with 221 runs and 19 dismissals behind the stumps, including a highest score of 44 against Australia in Ahmedabad in 2023.
That knock earned him a place in India’s XI for the ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval, where he managed 23 runs and five dismissals.
“With a proud heart and a sense of gratitude, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Bharat posted on social media. “To play for my country has been the greatest honour of my life.”
He thanked former India captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as well as ex-coach Rahul Dravid for his guidance from India A level.
In an era of fierce competition for the wicketkeeper’s slot — with MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, and Ishan Kishan setting high benchmarks — Bharat’s journey was a testament to perseverance. Though his international career was brief, he leaves the game with dignity and gratitude, proving that every Test cap is earned, not given.
